Attorney Biography
Career
Peter is a nationally recognized business, contract, real estate, and litigation attorney. Over the past 20 years, Peter has represented businesses of all sizes and has served as general counsel for large international corporations. Peter has also helped thousands of people and businesses throughout New Jersey to buy and sell residential and commercial real estate.
Peter is a frequent speaker and lecturer at various corporate and community events and has been interviewed by NPR, Dateline, and various other news and media publications. He also served as a contributing editor for Architectural Lighting Magazine, where he penned a monthly business practices column and has written for Kitchen & Bath Business, as well as other publications, including New Jersey Lawyer, Claims Magazine, and many more.
Peter spent his early career working for two large, Wall Street law firms. While he appreciated the high-level of legal work performed at these firms, he was unhappy with the level of client communication and involvement. After years on Wall Street, Peter moved his practice to New Jersey and became a partner at a mid-sized New Jersey law firm, where he focused his practice on his business litigation, insurance defense, real estate, and representing large international corporations throughout the United States and Canada.
Eventually, Peter decided that while he valued the experience of working with partners that he wanted to have full control over his practice and the way that he worked and interacted with his clients. As a result, the Law Offices of Peter J. Lamont was born.
Focus
Peter is laser-focused on providing practical legal and business advice to his clients. Peter takes a great deal of pride in understanding his client's needs and end goals and then devising a plan that provides them with the most practical, efficient, and cost-effective solutions possible. He often tells clients, "Just because you can sue someone, doesn't mean that it is in your best interests to do so".
Media
Prior to attending law school, Peter obtained his undergraduate degree in Media Communications and Journalism. This explains Peter's ongoing love of media-related technology. In fact, in 2012 Peter was one of the first lawyers to start a podcast, which he called Understanding the Law Radio or UTLRadio for short. While the podcast's format has changed over the years, the show is still one of the top-rated legal podcasts around. Peter also created a YouTube channel where he provides basic information about a variety of legal topics.
Personal
Peter is happily married with three amazing kids. His wife is a professional photographer who, in his opinion, takes the most amazing portraits. He loves the sport of hockey and can often be found at ice rinks with his youngest son who plays competitive ice hockey with the New Jersey Titans. His oldest son is pursuing a career in video game design and development while his middle son is excelling in high school and dominates every video game he plays. Peter is also a huge movie buff, pipe collector, Sherlock Holmes fan, and toy collector. For those of you who have been to the office, you know about the pipes, toys, and hockey memorabilia.
